The council welcomes you to our Grand Nationals qualifying show this year being held on 25-26 January 2020 at Christchurch Agricultural Park.
The show will follow the Show Horse Council programme (currently used in Australia), which includes classes such as Lead Rein for children aged 3 years, and under 8 years, First Ridden for riders under 12 years, Galloway, and adults are permitted to ride ponies. We have included as much information as we can in our schedule to help you understand the classes you can compete in.
Sure to be a hit is the “Childs fancy dress’ class. So get imaginative and lets see some wacky costumes. We have introduced Shetlands to our NZ shows this year and cant wait to see the support for this new section.
Earlier this year we took a team of 26 competitors to Australia to compete at Grand Nationals, largest showing show in Australasia. This is held in Sydney in March 2020. The winner and runner up of our Grand National classes and childs day classes are eligible to attend Grand Nationals 2021. This will be an exciting time and makes the expense of competing overseas worthwhile. The NZ Show Horse Council have an amazing riders package available and we will be available over the show weekend to discuss this opportunity with individual competitors interested in making the trip. Lets see if the Kiwis can take home the winners ribbons again.
Our Off The Track Thoroughbred Show Horse Series©™ will be held again during the 2019/20 season and is bigger and better with an overall prize pool of $7,000. This is proudly sponsored by NZ Thoroughbred Racing again who are very passionate about giving these animals a life after racing and this series is truly the best showing series in New Zealand.
This year we have separated the ridden and led components to give more people an opportunity to be apart of this event.
Finally, we now have a website for our members www.nzshc. co.nz this is the go to place for all information on our organisation, upcoming events and forms. Don’t forget to also follow us on our Facebook page - www.facebook.com/NZSHC/
