Main-Events for Bird Shows (NZ only)
Ian Galyer and his wife Heather came to our company about two years ago with an Access 2000 version of software they had developed years ago to run their local Wairarapa Bird Show.
The issue was that other shows were now interested in using it but Ian felt the software wasn’t robust enough to stand up to general commercial use. In a joint venture, we completely revamped the software to be more in line with other Main-Events Software programs.
We now have another "feather in our cap" so to speak with a product that is attracting great interest on the Bird Show circuit. Luckily for us showing birds is a "winter activity" when the birds aren’t breeding making it a good complementary product to our busy horse summer season software!
Main-Events for Bird Shows is fully customized for the NZ show scene with judges lists, specials lists, prize lists etc that are required by the national body. The software retails for $250 + gst and a free trial is available to official bird clubs. Dunedin Bird Club
Secretary of the Dunedin Bird Club, Ray Briggs was the first to use the new Main-Events for Bird Shows. Ray has been running bird shows for more than 30 years and currently does the secretarial work for 3 shows in his area. He also helps out at the Nationals.
Ray used our software to run some parts of his show – other parts were already entered in his spreadsheet system. Ray commented “The parts of new programme I used I felt it was straightforward and good to work with and I was pleased with the results produced. It made a big difference to us by cutting out one person cross checking. It was quicker and cut out a lot of mistakes.” As the first commercial user however, Ray recommended improvements on the financial and reporting side which we are now implementing so the revised version will be ready for the start of the next season in March 2007.
Summing up, Ray commented "A very good programme once all format of the result sheets are all sorted out."

Download a TRIAL VERSION or UPGRADE
You can download a trial version using the following link. When prompted, choose to OPEN the file which is a self extracting *.exe program. You will get notices about possible dangers as an unknown supplier but ignore and continue to OPEN. A small WINZIP window will appear stating that it will unzip installation files to a folder c:\Temp ME Birds Install which is correct. Click on UNZIP and when you get a message about the files being unzipped successfully, click on CLOSE and then OK.
The files have been unzipped to a temporary folder which you can find using MY COMPUTER and looking on your C: drive (local disk). When you find that folder, open the folder and then open the folder within which is C:\Temp ME Birds Install\ME Birds Installation. In that ME Birds Installation folder, double click on the setup.exe or (if you can't see the exe extension), the file with the small blue computer on the left.
Follow directions on the screen to install the software. IMPORTANT - when you first open the Birds program you will be prompted to register it. Please use the serial number 12345 to install. Once the software opens successfully on your computer, you can delete the whole temporary folder C:\Temp ME Birds Install.
CAUTION - if installing under VISTA, the software by default installs to the D: drive (not the C: drive). Once you have finished the installation, please copy the whole folder d:\Main-Events Birds to the C: drive so you have a C:\Main-Events Birds folder. Then open as usual.
