Main-Events for Horse Shows

NZ Horse of the Year

Professional version – close to 2000 horses and 900 customers

“The New Zealand Horse of the Year Show has been using the Main Events programme for over eight years, now. Its user friendly nature has enabled it to be used by a wide number of people. In this time the show has trebled in the number of entries that are being processed. The Main Events programme has been able to handle this increase without any problems. We are now processing just under 2,000 horses, most of who are entering into at least three classes. Entries are received for competition over five days and from 13 disciplines. This I hope that this will give you some idea of the volumes that this programme can easily deal with.”

”Set up for quick reference, be it to horse, class, competitor or owner, it certainly makes the secretary’s job far easier, to enter, find and check the required information. With numerous reports, both printed and on screen all queries can be answered quickly and efficiently.”

”When reviewing the show, as well as in preparation for the next event, reports can provide vital information as to future requirements, classes that were successful, classes the were not economically viable, etc. All this information is vital to the success of future events.”

“A new feature of the programme is the link between the Main Event website and the Horse of the Year one. Thus competitors can check classes, results, money etc, for themselves. As each competitor is issued with a special password, this enables them secure access to their own private information. Not only does this mean that a competitor can check information for themselves, it also limits the number of queries an already busy event secretary has to answer. Those who used it last year were certainly impressed and we know that there will be a huge increase in usage for the 2007 show.”

Christmas Classic, Young Horse Show & Horse Trials

Professional used over multiple types of shows in a year

“I have used Main-Event software for a number of years now. I have used this software for the NZ Young Horse Show Jumping Championships along with our larger show the Taupo Christmas Classic. Both are show jumping shows, the later having over 700 entries.”

”Along with the Show Jumping show, I have relied on Main-Events for our three Horse Trial events also, including the New Zealand National Three Day Championships which we hold each year.”

”The software has continually improved and does everything that I require of it very simply. I find it is very user friendly to operate and having recently trialed some other software find Main-Events far superior to those trialed.”

“I highly recommend Main-Events to all show secretaries.”

  • Cathy Vennell, Secretary for NZ National Equestrian Centre, Taupo; NZ National Three Day Event Championships; Taupo Christmas Classic; Taupo Training Trials; Taupo Open Spring Trial and NZ Young Horse Breeding Championships

Tielcey Park, Palmerston North

Fully featured equestrian centre running shows, clinics, courses and information days

"As New Zealand's Premier Equestrian Facility, Tielcey Park prides ourself on the professionalism of our shows. We have utilised Main-Events software since the beginning of our business, having recognised it to be a class ahead of anything else on the market."

"We are consistently commended on how well organised our shows are, thanks in no small part to Main-Events, which takes the headache out of organising entries. The technical team are very helpful and take onboard suggestions and provide coaching when required. We highly recommend Main-Events for anybody who wishes to run hassle-free shows."

Auckland Easter Show & Franklin A&P Society

One of NZ's largest shows with lots of spectator interest

“I have worked with the Main Events Software for the last 3 years at The Royal Easter Show in Auckland.”

”The programme was a real eye opener to me as a non- computer person. I was able to grasp the concept very easily and have been able to utilise the entire programme.”

”The Royal Easter Show is a 6 day show combining horse, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs and an Art competition. The software was easily adapted to anything we needed pertaining to a particular section. Over the period of the last show, I was able to handle a large amount of data input with only one other person assisting. My assistant was able to understand and follow the programme after one day and commented on how easy it was to use.”

”I have now moved to the Franklin Agricultural & Pastoral Society. With the experience I have had with Main Event programme at the Royal Easter Show, I am insisting that the Society buy this programme for future events and we are in the process of purchasing it now. We know from previous experience that it will fulfil all the requirements of running a successful show.”

Gai Edge, Northland Showjumping

Standard version used by a relatively new computer user

Gai has been secretary of showjumping in Northland for 30 years. She also assists with eventing. She is a good example of someone moving from a paper system to a computerized system.

“I am a volunteer secretary in the Showjumping world – a self taught computer user attending the occasional night class. And I am glad to say … now a user of the Main-Events program. I wanted to improve the lot of a secretary so encouraged our group to give it a go. So of course, as usual I was elected to learn how to drive it.

After 30 years of taking entries, I would have to say this program has changed my life. The ever patient Anne gave me a tutorial by phone on setting up the programme and putting in entries. No more time consuming writing up sheets with carbon. Results that were written by hand are now emailed on the day. There is a list for everything and each year I learn something new. I would encourage you to give it a go. Anne is always so gracious with her advice.”

Horowhenua Dressage Group

Transferred from excel spreadsheets to First Steps this year

”I have been the event secretary for Horowhenua Dressage Group for the past 12 years.”

”All entries up until this time had been painstakingly entered into excel format as they arrived with details of horses, registration numbers, riders and their registration numbers and the classes they wished to enter. When all entries were received I then put all the details into the appropriate classes sometimes having to type them up to 5 times if it was a 2 day show. It was very time consuming and I spent many hours at the computer.”

”I was advised in February of this year to contact Anne Vallance at Main Event and boy am I glad I did. I told Anne what I required and found the Main Event First Steps had everything that I needed. We had a show in April and I used Main Events for the first time. I couldn’t believe how easy it was to use and how much time it saved. I now do the draws in a third of the time it used to take. I have now done 5 shows with the programme and am delighted with it. I just enter the details once and just push a button to do a random draw and find it easy to change any rider that may be wanting a late draw or has several horses. I then print out the catalogue and also do the score sheets.”

”I have had several comments on the professional look of the catalogue and would recommend the programme to any one involved as an Event Secretary.”
